Carl Bandy - Artist

Colorado artist Carl Bandy has been hand-carving bas-relief sculptures since 1977 and creating cast paper sculptures since 1987. The even- grained mahogany allows him to achieve chiseled rock-like textures, fine detail or smooth surfaces. This, combined with fibers of the finished paper sculpture, yields a multi- textured effect, enhanced by the shadows. The illusion of depth and mass is one of the most important things Bandy strives to achieve.

Starting with pure cotton fibers the paper pulp is buffered to an acid- free state. Waterproofing compounds, preservatives and light-fast pigments are also used. The paper pulp is then carefully hand- cast to create truly archival paper sculptures. When thoroughly dry, each paper cast is inspected, signed and numbered as part of a very limited edition. Acid-free mats & hardwood frames provide the finishing touch.

Colorado artist Carl Bandy has transformed images of archaeological sites and spirituality into dramatic cast paper sculptures that celebrate the beauty and mystery of the Ancient Ones and life itself.
